Definition
The party the carrier or forwarder notifies when the shipment arrives, often the consignee or its agent.
The notify party is named on the bill of lading or air waybill as the contact to be informed when cargo reaches destination, typically via the arrival notice. It may be the consignee, the consignee’s customs broker, or a forwarding agent.
Naming a notify party ensures the right person is alerted to arrange clearance and collection promptly, which helps avoid demurrage and detention. It is a notification role only and does not by itself confer title or the right to take delivery.
