Definition
A fee charged by the port terminal for handling a container between the vessel and the yard.
The Terminal Handling Charge covers the terminal’s work of loading and unloading containers, moving them around the yard, and related stevedoring. Carriers collect it on the terminal’s behalf and pass it on, charged separately at origin (OTHC) and destination (DTHC).
THC is one of the most significant local charges on a quote and varies widely by port and country. Forwarders break it out clearly so customers can compare all-in rates rather than just the ocean freight line.
