A Service Mix is the blueprint for a specific freight service offering (for example, Air Service, Ocean FCL, or Road LTL). It brings together the main transport mode, the trade direction, pickup and delivery legs, accepted cargo units, and the exact operational workflow your team must follow to execute a shipment of that type.
Once configured, a Service Mix drives how shipments are quoted, routed, and tracked throughout the platform.
To manage these configurations, navigate to Configuration → Service Data → Service Mix.
Navigating the Service Mix List
The main list displays all configured transport modes in your system. While you can create custom configurations, FreighTools also provides several pre-defined system records to get you started.
Each row provides a quick overview:
- Name: The label identifying the product (e.g., "Ocean FCL").
- Service Type (S1): The high-level transport mode (Air, Ocean, Rail, Road).
- Service Trade (S2): The trade direction (e.g., Import, Export, Domestic, Cross Trade).
- Pickup (S3) & Delivery (S4): The specific services assigned to the origin and destination legs.
- Routing Levels: Checkboxes indicating which geographic routing points (e.g., House From, Hub To) are active.
- Available For SP: Indicates if this service can be used when generating Sales Proposals.
Creating or Editing a Service Mix
To build a new transport product, click + New Service Mix in the top-right corner. The configuration is divided into four main tabs.
1. General Tab (Core Settings)
This tab defines the basic architecture of the service.
- Name & Service Type (S1): Define the display name and the primary mode of transport.
- Service Trade (S2): Define the trade direction this service applies to (Import, Export, Domestic, or Cross Trade).
- Pickup (S3) & Delivery (S4): Assign the specific services for the first and last mile (e.g., "AirFreight - Pick to AirPort").
- Freight Unit: Select all cargo types supported by this service (e.g., Pallet, Box, Container).
- Routing Level Checkboxes: Define the structural journey by checking the active routing points: House From, Hub From, Master From, Master To, Hub To, House To.
- Available for SP: Check this box to make the service mix selectable when your sales team is creating quotes or proposals. (You can also enable SP Web to show this service on your customer-facing portal).
2. Logical Activities Tab
This tab defines the financial and operational activities that apply to this service at specific points along the route.
- Click + New Logical Activity to add requirements like Warehouse Handling, Customs Clearance, or VAT.
- Link each activity to a specific Logical Freight Name (the leg) and Logical Address Name (the specific routing point, like AOL or AOD).
- Define whether the activity applies to Export, Import, or Domestic trades, and check Required if it is mandatory.
3. Template Steps Tab (Operational Workflow)
This tab is where you define the step-by-step workflow your operations team will follow when executing this type of shipment.
- Click + New Template Step to create tasks like Booking, Pick Up Goods, or Invoice Registration.
- Expected Type: Link the step to a system trigger (e.g., SO Creation or Master To (ETA)).
- Execution Tools: You can assign specific Email Templates to a step. For example, assigning a "Booking Acknowledgement" template to the Booking step will automatically trigger that email when the step is reached!
4. Structure View Tab
The Structure View provides a read-only, visual diagram of the entire Service Mix.
It maps the full journey from Origin to Destination, breaking down every leg, routing point, and associated activity.
Pro Tip: The Structure View is the fastest way to audit a newly created Service Mix. Always check this visual map to confirm all routing legs and activities are correctly linked before making the service "Active" for your team.
System Records Warning
You may notice some Service Mixes feature a red warning banner at the top. These are System Records pre-loaded by FreighTools.
While you cannot delete these core system records or alter their fundamental architecture, you can fully edit their Logical Activities and Template Steps to match your company's specific operational workflow and pricing structure.
